Lights, Camera, Sandwiches! Maverick Studios Shoots Catering Photography for Jimmy John’s

Maverick takes their talents to the set! Jimmy John’s came to Maverick Studios to shoot new photography for their new catering boxes, catering bundles, box lunch, and the Fall LTO, BBQ Ranch Chicken Crunch. This proves to be a big ask, requiring both pre- and post-production along with footage of every product with multiple angles, backgrounds, and amounts of lighting. Not to mention that the catering boxes come in 30, 18 and 12 packs! This footage is super valuable, as it will be implemented on the JJ’s website and across future campaigns. Maverick never backs down from a challenge, and our talented team dove headfirst into this big assignment.

Maverick took the creative lead in this project. For the catering imagery portion, the creative and production teams worked closely to gather the information needed to bring this content to life. Maverick did extensive analysis on the catering content of Jimmy John’s competition: shooting style, POP design and website/digital presentation. Based on findings, the team presented their creative direction recommendations to the client, advising on specific angles, props, camera settings, etc.

The first hiccup came along when the catering packaging design wasn’t printed in time for the shoot. However, there’s no case of hiccups that Maverick can’t get rid of! Maverick had to collaborate with the client and printing vendor to obtain and shoot the blank catering packaging and digitally insert the design into the photography in post-production. This required extra care and attention to make sure that the final images would look natural and real with the design implemented. Given the size of this project — large number of individual shots/products — this was an ambitious task. The number of deliverables required multiple set changes, keeping track of lighting and camera settings, and making sure everything requested on the shot list was captured and delivered according to required specs. On top of that, this project required multi-team collaboration — Maverick’s creative team working closely with the client on the design of the new packaging and the production team collaborating with the client to guarantee we would have all the assets and logistics in place. Logistics included having the mockup boxes ready and delivered to the studio, along with lots of products/ingredients for food stylists to build large catering packages to give JJ’s guests a clear view on the ideal options for their specific needs.

Per usual, Maverick rose to the challenge! The project wrapped with outstanding creative work, not just through the design phase, but also during post-production to create images that look natural, on-brand, and perfectly inform Jimmy John’s guests. The final images clearly show Maverick Studios’ capabilities and willingness to take on any project, no matter how difficult or collaborative, and deliver results that go beyond expectations, on-time and within budget without sacrificing quality.
